Kalyani: Yoga Teacher & Practitioner
Kalyani has been a dedicated practitioner of yoga and meditation for over 30 years, with extensive experience in Sivananda, Siddha, and Kriya yoga traditions as well as practicing in Astanga and Iyengar techniques. She completed her yoga teacher training with the Sivananda organization, studying under swamis in England, Canada, and Uttarkashi in the Himalayas over 20 years ago.
For six years, Kalyani lived on the edge of the jungle in India, near the Gujarat border, where she was initiated into Kriya Yoga while co-founding and working with the nonprofit Saha Astitva. During this time, she immersed herself in Vedic practices and studies, further enriching her spiritual and yogic practice.
She has also studied under Mukunda Stiles, the author of Structural Yoga Therapy. These studies deepened her understanding of how structural elements in the body relate to strength, stretching, and relaxation. Kalyani emphasizes gentle yet powerful techniques, such as the Pawanmuktasana series (joint-freeing movements), which safely increase flexibility over time without risking injury. These practices are accessible to people of all fitness levels and flexibility.
Kalyani’s expertise extends beyond traditional yoga settings. For several years, she wrote a column for an English cycling magazine and taught weekly yoga sessions to Ironman triathletes in Oxford. These athletes found her approach invaluable for easing muscle tightness and improving performance.
One of Kalyani’s guiding philosophies is: "If you don’t make a change, nothing will change."
Kalyani Yoga helps you learn how to center, breathe, relax, and surrender. Whether you’re seeking balance in life or looking to gain an edge in your sport, Kalyani can help you find your yoga — your balance.
Kalyani is co-owner of Maui Healing Retreat and founder of the Rainbow Fish Foundation. She has lived in Hawaii for 11 years and found her home on Maui eight years ago.
